According to Ryan Reynolds, Deadpool 2 is a family movie. Given the title, we might guess that the third installment in Reynolds’ words could be a rom-com. After all, opposites attract, and to save the world, the biggest chatterbox in the universe, Wade Wilson, has to team up with the one X-Men he can’t stand, Logan. So, let’s take a closer look at the not-so-odd couple Deadpool & Wolverine.
JOELLE’S TINDER QUESTION
Remember these two moments. In Deadpool 2, Wade regenerates on the couch after a tough fight where he lost his lower half. As the apartment fills up, he wonders if the room is listed on Tinder.

During the pandemic, Ryan Reynolds produced the ad ‘Match Made in Hell,’ where Satan and the year 2020 find each other on a dating platform and have a lot of fun together.
Therefore, this time host Joelle asked Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman a special question at the Deadpool & Wolverine press conference in Berlin.

She asked if Disney/Marvel’s acquisition of FOX even generated a kind of dating tool as a side effect. Hence, the question is if we can expect a romance, or will the ‘relationship status’ between Deadpool & Wolverine remain complicated?
NEVER SAY NEVER – THE RESURRECTION
FOX once let Wolverine die. So how are Disney and Marvel handling his resurrection – and maybe even that of other superheroes? We don’t want to give away too much of the story. But as you can already see in the trailers, Deadpool & Wolverine team up against a powerful villain, Cassandra Nova. And typical of Marvel, the creators assume a fair amount of insider knowledge.
THE VILLAIN CASSANDRA NOVA A.K.A. EMMA CORRIN
Cassandra is the twin sister of X-Men founder and Wolverine’s best friend, Professor X a.k.a. Charles Xavier. But it seems she has even more power than her brother, which she doesn’t necessarily use for good. And, besides, she looks much better than her brother too.
The villain is played by the English actress Emma Corrin, whom you might know from the Netflix series ‘The Crown.’ She received many awards for her role as Princess Diana. In Berlin, she shares what she enjoys doing in foreign cities and what she particularly enjoyed about the role.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW TO WATCH DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE?
Deadpool & Wolverine stands on its own as a movie. You can have a lot of fun even without any special prior knowledge. However, the full enjoyment only comes when you know at least a bit about Deadpool & Wolverine, preferably about the X-Men and other Marvel superheroes—especially those who first appeared on the big screen under FOX’s banner.

NO SPOILERS
We can’t say much more about the story, as Marvel includes a lot of Easter eggs, from cameos by well-known heroes or actors to the set design. There are so many nods to the entire MCU that it’s a true delight for fans. So, it’s hard to highlight even a small part without spoiling anything. Hence, let’s focus on the actual review.
THE comprehensive
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE REVIEW
Disney invites us to a special kind of MCU party with Deadpool & Wolverine. Actually, it’s a Slaughterfest, with many liters of blood being spilled. The action is clearly the focus. And it’s intense. If the first two parts were already characterized by massive violence, Deadpool 3 takes it up a notch.
THE STUNTS & THE SCORE
The stunt choreography is simply breathtaking from the first second. As usual with Deadpool, the hard fights are mixed with a lot of slapstick, humor, and the coolest music.
No question, this soundtrack is genius. The team has put together a great playlist ranging from the 50s to today. In the cinema, the soundtrack, paired with the incredible visuals, presses us into our seats. Especially in that scene, and this can be spoiled, where “Like A Prayer” underscores the powerful images, many emotions are released.
THE EMOTIONS (COMPARED WITH THE PREQUELS)
Unfortunately, Deadpool & Wolverine doesn’t always manage to keep the emotional level at its peak. I recently rewatched Deadpool 2 (my personal favorite of all Marvel movies) and enjoyed the emotional rollercoaster ride again. This was especially driven by Ryan Reynolds’ interaction with his co-stars, particularly Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Josh Brolin (Cable), Zazie Beetz (Domino), Julian Dennison (Firefist), and Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic).
In Deadpool 3, I miss that depth and chemistry between the characters here and there. There are deeper scenes, but because of the film’s energy, you probably need to watch it at least twice to open up to those gentler moments.
Marvel gives us a lot of input with Deadpool & Wolverine, and it takes time to process it all. Plus, you should at least rewatch Logan and some other FOX-MCU movies. Only then can the emotional universe Marvel is trying to create with Deadpool & Wolverine unfold in all its glory.
THE VISUALS & STORY
As mentioned, the same goes for the story. Even without prior knowledge, Deadpool & Wolverine is a lot of fun due to the witty action and brilliant visuals. However, you can only fully immerse yourself if you have some insight into the complexity of the multiverse and its characters.
In Deadpool 3, we also encounter the Time Variance Authority. It’s complicated. And when a ton of Deadpools from parallel worlds appear, it would have been nice to avoid a few logic gaps. Fans, of course, speculate who is behind Lady Deadpool’s mask. The answer is in the credits.
DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE SAVE THE MCU!
Anyway, the MCU has recently had a bit of a rough patch with its universe development. Films like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness or Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania were more black holes than shining stars. And the Guardians bid farewell for good.
So, can Deadpool & Wolverine get the MCU back on track? The answer is a resounding yes. Despite all the criticism, the film is the summer highlight. It combines massive action with even more intense humor.
CONCLUSION
Ryan Reynolds a.k.a. Deadpool stays true to himself. He’s still the same chatterbox who takes nothing and no one seriously and has no respect for anyone, except for his ‘family.’ Some beloved characters from Deadpool 1 & 2 are missing, which is a shame. Others are added, which was probably unnecessary. Some get just a small part, which is a shame.
However, all in all, though, Deadpool & Wolverine is a testament to true friendship, both in front of and behind the camera. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are best friends. It’s rumored that after Jackman and his wife have separated, Jackman crashed on Reynolds’ couch for a long time. Thus, it seems that Jackman is now part of the Reynolds family.
With this simple background knowledge, Deadpool & Wolverine is even more fun, especially in one of the final scenes, which – as hinted – is very emotional, thanks to the music and the bond between the two.
It shows that you can fight fiercely and even hate each other sometimes. But if you have a common goal and open up to each other, you feel close, that you belong together, and that you can rely on each other, even love each other. So, Deadpool & Wolverine is indeed a rom-com, albeit a very special one. At least from our perspective. Therefore, we give it 8 points.
