She has weathered some dark times: Cloudy June. After a rough breakup, she faced mental struggles, self-doubt, and the sting of misogynistic gossip, followed by grief and anger.
CLOUDY JUNE & CRAZY WOMAN
In her recent tracks, Big Girls Don’t Cry and Crazy Woman, the 25-year-old Berlin native channels this challenging phase’s raw, unfiltered energy, laying it all out in her powerful debut album. Now, with the third and final pre-release single from her upcoming LP set to drop in November 2024, the clouds are finally parting.
Sad Girl Era marks the end of the turmoil, unveiling a protagonist who has emerged stronger, reflecting growth from every setback. “Make peace with the girl in the mirror / she never deserved the things I said,” she sings—a line that resonates as both a self-reckoning and a farewell to a painful chapter. It’s an anthem of resilience and self-love, a “Goodbye to the worst time I ever had” moment, a declaration of survival meant to inspire both herself and others.
THE SAD GIRL ERA VIDEO
The cinematic music video for Sad Girl Era opens with Cloudy in a therapy session, receiving the confirmation that her “Sad Girl Era” is over. Soon after, she shares her hard-won insights with a support group seeking their own way out of dark times.
The video evolves from scenes of despair to a cathartic celebration, shifting from tears of frustration to tears of joy. With a high-school-pop aesthetic reminiscent of early Avril Lavigne, the visual is both nostalgic and iconic.
Musically, the verses are stripped back with just acoustic guitar and soft drums, while the chorus explodes into a triumphant rock anthem layered with catchy riffs—a powerful comeback for a promising new voice.
