In the 80s and 90s, we were well-entertained by the director-producer trio Jim Abrahams and the brothers Jerry and David Zucker. Flicks such as The Kentucky Fried Movie, Airplane!, Top Secret! or Ruthless People brought tears to the eyes of film fans. The absolute cinematic highlight of the trio was and is, of course, The Naked Gun.
The hero of the crime comedy series is Frank Drebin, played by the unforgettable Leslie Nielsen. Even though Frank is a macho man who doesn’t miss a beat in his investigations or private life, we love him more and more every minute.
Playing alongside Leslie is Priscilla Presley, to whom Sofia Coppola has just dedicated a cinematic film portrait that is currently showing in cinemas. We also see George Kennedy and the controversial former football star O. J. Simpson.
In The Naked Gun, Frank must prevent an assassination attempt on Queen Elizabeth II that is being prepared by unscrupulous businessman Vincent Ludwig (Ricardo Montalbán). Similar to Hypnotic with Ben Affleck, he also uses the power of hypnosis to make others submissive to his endeavors.
However, unlike Affleck’s crime thriller, we can’t stop laughing about Leslie Nielsen’s in The Naked Gun. Frank Drebin’s crazy escapades are too hilarious, pure slapstick.
