Eddie Murphy was one of the most famous Hollywood stars in the 80s. He wrote film history with his flippant manner and humor as well as with films like Trading Places (see report tomorrow), Beverly Hills Cop, and Coming to America. However, he already showed his special style in his first film, 48 Hrs.
Here, he plays small-time crook Reggie Hammond, who is in prison. Since Inspector Jack Cates is hunting Reggie’s former gang, he gives him the chance to get out of prison for 48 hours and help him in the hunt. Absolute chaos is naturally inevitable.
The interaction between the chatterbox Murphy and the taciturn Nolte is still great, even if some scenes or sayings would probably no longer be filmed nowadays.
If you like cult 80s movies or/and Eddie Murphy take the change to win a 48 Hrs. Double Feature in 4K UHD now.
