The media around the world reports on disasters every day. Even if we often want to look away, and even if there are so many problems, we still have to be aware of them. The media only shows a small, current fraction. The top topics of today will be forgotten tomorrow. Therefore, a film deals with a special topic that continues to grow in secret: human trafficking. The movie is primarily concerned with trafficking children and the desire to free them from their predicament so that they can hear again the Sound of Freedom.
(A)SOCIAL MEDIA?
It was probably one of the most controversial films of last year. And not because of the film itself, but because of various internet campaigns that were based on conspiracy theories. Even if some things may be true, others may be exaggerated or even made up, many of these campaigns come from people who seem to be very uncomfortable when others do something good.
Nobody should take part in such smear campaigns but rather start a constructive, joint discourse. Because that’s the only way things can change.
Unfortunately, the Internet is increasingly becoming a place that a few people, but now more and more people, abuse to vent their frustration. They seem to do this best by discrediting, insulting, or even threatening others.
At the time of Covid, young people were insulted on so-called social media because they offered to help old people. Influencers are withdrawing from the networks because they are threatened just because they openly express their opinions and thus shake up the perfect illusionary world.
THE STORY OF SOUND OF FREEDOM
Therefore, it is important to share deep emotions in such a brutalized world. Love, warmth, understanding, respect, compassion, responsibility… And that’s exactly what Sound of Freedom does. From the first second, the story touches your heart.
In Sound of Freedom, special agent Tim Ballard (Jim Caviezel) leads a seemingly hopeless battle against international child and human trafficking. When he rescues little Miguel (Lucás Ávila) from Honduras from the hands of unscrupulous child traffickers, he learns that his sister Rocío (Cristal Aparicio) is still in the hands of criminals.
Since his department doesn’t want to intervene, he quits his job without further ado, because Ballard’s principle applies: God’s children are not for sale. So, he travels to the Colombian jungle to free little Rocío. And so a life-threatening mission begins.
SOUND OF FREEDOM REVIEW
We were able to see the film before it opened in theaters and were deeply moved. Here you can find our detailed review. But in brief: Before you start Sound of Freedom, make sure you won’t be disturbed for the next 131 minutes. Stock up on your favorite snacks and drinks and, ideally, some tissues too.
Because then Sound of Freedom hits you exactly where it hurts, in the heart. Without hesitation, he shows an essential topic that we like to close our eyes to. Also, because we know that many of the products we buy come from children’s hands.
Even some very large, well-known companies cannot absolve themselves of offering cheap products made by children’s hands. This affects many areas, but particularly the textile, electrical, and food industries.
THE SPECIAL
What’s special about Sound of Freedom is that the film is not accusatory or political in any way. Apart from the main character, all characters are fictional and generally drawn.
With impressive, sometimes very beautiful images and the appropriate music – recorded by Shakira, among others – Sound of Freedom shows us our responsibility to keep our eyes and minds open always and everywhere. The film reminds us to stand up for others and – thinking a little further – to question the economic system that is based on a modern slave market.
Hundreds of studies and research show that this term is not an exaggeration. Our common sense alone should tell us that there is something wrong with many of the product prices offered.
CRISTAL APARICIO (ROCÍO)
Sound of Freedom works with a leading actress that everyone probably wants to protect. Cristal Aparicio plays little Rocío so sensitively that we would like to pack our suitcases to help her.
JIM CAVIEZEL (TIM BALLARD)
Jim Caviezel, who also had to face a lot of hostility, plays special agent Tim Ballard, just as sensitively. In Sound of Freedom, he is not an action hero, like in Outlander (2008), but an everyday hero who changes the world in small ways and thereby achieves something big.
Hence, if you want to look forward to a film that goes deep on many levels, a film that makes us laugh in one moment and cry in the next, then you should definitely watch Sound of Freedom.
We’ll help you by giving away a Blu-Ray and a DVD each. The task is:
Good luck with it. The Legal recourse is excluded.
